About

Welcome to A Piece of Kek!

My name is Asyraf. I am 17 18 23 years old and I enjoy baking.

How I ended up here

It all started in 2013…

I wanted cheesecake. But I didn’t want to buy it. So I made it myself. For the next few months, my family and I ended up having no-bake cheesecakes almost every week! With my belly full of cheesecakes, I stopped ‘baking’.

After a long period of nothingness, I found out about macarons. Ever heard the saying “looks can be deceiving”? Despite how simple macarons looked, they were painfully difficult to make. After many failed attempts, I accepted the fact that I couldn’t make macarons and decided to move on. [I think it’s because I use a gas oven!]

The result? I succeeded in baking all sorts of treats: cakes, cookies, pies, bread, even croissants!

My baking journey wasn’t always sweet. There were salty moments too but it was a whole lot of fun! I made mistakes and learned my lessons.

The shift to healthier desserts

Consuming too much sugary food isn’t good. Realizing the side effects of a high-sugar diet, I started eating better in 2016.

Nowadays, I make sure that all my recipes contain just enough sugar. I now substitute white sugar with brown sugar.

What’s in it for you

This site is a place for me to share the recipes I like and help others discover how easy it is to bake. (Go to the Basics page if you’re new to baking. I have made detailed step-by-step guides that will help you make a real cake there!)

For people who enjoy desserts but want to control their sugar intake, this blog will also be a good place to get those healthier sweet fixes!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you benefit from my blog!
